Birds of the Bay 2017
2017 was the year that I started building my portfolio of wild bird photography. My main interest is in documenting the natural areas in and around the Bay Area, California. I am fascinated by the interaction of the natural and the urban.

San Francisco Bay Trail: So Far
For the past several years, I have been working on a project to document the San Francisco Bay trail. It has been slow going, but I am looking to renew my commitment to this project. Stay tuned...

San Leandro Bay
I have been living in the Bay Area for a while now, and I keep hearing about this "San Francisco Bay Trail." I have walked and photographed a few sections of the Bay Trail in the past, but in the coming months, I am going to explore it much more intentionally. Many sections of the Bay Trail go through existing public parks, marinas and otherwise built-up places. But the most exciting parts for me are the areas that are set aside as nature preserves. A couple of days ago, I visited San Leandro Bay, which is the bit in between Oakland, Alameda, and Bay Farm Island.

San Francisco Bay Trail at Richmond
These are some abstract and impressionist photographs that I made on a recent urban hike on the San Francisco Bay Trail near Richmond. I did play around with intentional camera movement, but I also had lots of fun with double exposures. I did all of the effects in-camera, with minimal retouching. Enjoy.

Meditations at Cathedral of Christ the Light
This is my next instalment of my abstract photography series, "Meditations." This is a series of abstract and impressionist photographs made in places of worship. And for this instalment, I went to the Cathedral of Christ the Light, also known as Oakland Cathedral, in Oakland, California. I really feel that I am starting to find my voice at this point in the series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy making it.

Meditations at St Dominic's Catholic Church
My latest ongoing project is a series of abstract and impressionist photographs made in places of worship. The method that I am using is intentional camera movement (ICM.) This group is from St Dominic's Catholic Church, in San Francisco. I used my favorite crappy digital camera, the Leica V-Lux 1, which is basically a point-and-shoot camera pretending to be a DSLR. It does have a manual mode, and does not have a noisy mirror, which made it perfect for this project.
